Long-Time Civic Leader Ahmad Anderson
Announces Candidacy for Richmond City Council
Mayor Tom Butt, Richmond Firefighters, Labor Leaders Endorse
Richmond, CA –Long-Time Richmond civic leader Ahmad Anderson formally announced his candidacy for Richmond City Council in newly created District 5, encompassing the neighborhoods of Cortez/Stege, Eastshore, Laurel Park, Marina Bay, Panhandle, Park View, and the Annex.
“We need Ahmad Anderson’s energy, integrity, and fresh ideas on the City Council during these dynamic and challenging times,” said Richmond Mayor Tom Butt. “I strongly endorse his candidacy.”
Anderson, a former Vice President of Goodwill Industries© of the East Bay, has deep roots in Richmond. Both of his parents — the late Rev. Booker T. Anderson and his mother, Irma Anderson — are former Richmond City Councilmembers and Mayors.
““I’m incredibly grateful for the encouragement and support I’ve received so far,” said Anderson. “The City is in fiscal stress while the effects of coronavirus are threatening our health, livelihoods, and businesses. Our residents need the essential, life-saving services the City provides, more than ever.”
A Richmond native, Ahmad Anderson is a business executive with expertise in diversity training, human resources, healthcare, and workforce planning. He has extensive experience as a private sector CEO, regional workforce director and manager of complex projects and large budgets.
Among other endorsements, Anderson is backed by the Contra Costa County Building & Construction Trades Council and the Richmond Firefighters. ABOUT AHMAD: A graduate of UC Berkeley, Ahmad was a Cal Football defensive back and is currently an M.A. candidate at Columbia University Teachers College. He previously served on the boards of the Contra Costa County Childcare Council and Youth Service Bureau, and as Vice President of the NAACP. A resident of the Laurel Park neighborhood, Ahmad’s priorities are maintaining safe, clean neighborhoods; addressing homelessness; creating jobs, and revitalizing the local economy.
